Honduran President Forcibly Removed in Coup d’Etat

Emboldened by recent successes of statist-dictators Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro and statist-sympathizer Barack Obama, Honduras president Manuel Zelaya sought to hold a referendum on whether he should be able to run for President of Honduras indefinitely. His ruse didn’t exactly turn out the way he planned, as almost every Honduran citizen and politico was against the idea. Still, Zelaya pressed on with having the initiative on the ballot, and it ultimately cost him his presidency. The Honduras military surrounded Zelaya’s home and seized him after a short scuffle with Zelaya’s personal security team. It is reported that Zelaya has been taken to Venezuela, after being forcibly removed via a coup d’etat. Never a welcome experience, a coup d’etat is usually seen as a vocal minority taking over a silent majority. In this case however, the majority of freedom-loving Hondurans displaced a statist-dictator seeking to legislate away their freedoms one corrupt election at a time. What remains unclear is who is ultimately now in charge of Honduras. The head of Congress is legally next in line to take the presidency, with the justice of the Supreme Court next in line. Both potential successors were against Zelaya’s referendum. Rarely does something good come from a coup d’etat, but we will have to wait and see what happens on this one. It appears that the intentions behind it were good, but good intentions don’t always lead to good results. One can only hope that whoever takes power in Honduras will embrace freedom for its citizens, and swim against the tide of Socialism in Central and South American countries. Source
